Frequently asked questions
Who's this course for?
This course is designed for students who want to move beyond just “taking pictures” and start creating images that express their perspective, emotions, and ideas. It is recommended for middle school and above, but keen upper elementary schools students could also enjoy.
Do we need a fancy camera?
Nope! A phone, tablet, or any digital camera works—the focus is on creativity and technique. That said, kids who understand manual exposure will have a blast pushing their creativity even further with a DSLR or mirrorless camera!
Kids who are yet to learn about manual cameras, look out for The Young Photographer's Adventure.

How long does the course take?
The course is self-paced, but most students finish in 4–6 weeks, depending on their pace. Finishing within that timeframe would require one or two challenges completed per week. We encourage them to slow down, explore each challenge fully, and dive deeper into their creativity rather than rushing through.
How do we access the course?
Once enrolled, students get instant access to all materials through our online learning platform.
Is there a deadline to finish?
No, students get lifetime access to the course, so they can go at their own pace and revisit lessons anytime.
What if my child needs help?
There’s a community hub where students can ask questions, share photos, and get feedback from peers. The course creator, Janet, will also be in the community to answer any questions.
Is there any grading or assessment?
No grades—this course is about creative growth, not tests. Students reflect on their own progress and receive encouragement through the community.
Can parents see what their child is doing?
Absolutely! Parents can follow along, review their child’s photos, and ask Janet questions if they have any.
How does this course help my child beyond photography?
Beyond learning photography skills, students develop creativity, problem-solving, storytelling, confidence, and self-expression—skills that extend far beyond photography and into everyday life.
