Janet Pliszka
Janet is the creator of Kids Photography Academy. She's been a professional photographer for over 20 years. She's always loved watching kids get curious about her camera and that motivated her to start teaching photography in camps and schools in her city of Calgary. Now, she's thrilled to also offer online experiences for kids everywhere through KPA. Her students describe her as super encouraging, fun and knowledgeable.
She is all about sparking passion, confidence, and curiosity in kids by teaching them this craft she loves so much.

Frequently asked questions
What does my child need to bring to photography camp?
A phone camera, tablet, or iPad
Please make sure it’s fully charged before the workshop.
Favourite toys
These help kids tell meaningful stories through their photos. We’ll have some toys available from the store, but we strongly encourage bringing personal favourites too.
An open mind and a positive attitude
Curiosity and creativity go a long way—this is all about experimenting, imagining, and having fun!
How will kids learn at camp?
I bring in lots of different ways to learn: slideshows, games, examples, challenges, discussions, and critiques. The best way to learn photography is hands-on, so there will be loads of time to practice the concepts we will learn and discuss together.
What are the minimum and maximum number of kids attending?
There is a maximum of 12 kids attending the camp. The minimum number of kids to have the program run is 8. If we are not able to secure 5 participants, we will notify you at least 48 hours in advance and we’ll refund you in full. Be sure to tell your friends so we can keep the workshop running!!
What is the refund policy?
Full Refund: A full refund will be issued if a cancellation request is made at least 3 days prior to the start of the workshop.
No Refund: No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 3 days of the start of the workshop.
Replacement Option: If your child is unable to attend, their spot can be transferred to a replacement participant you find, with no cancellation fees or additional costs.
